Well Bottom Shape Compatibility Dimple

When pipetting reagents into assay plates with 96 or 384 well pipetting heads it is often useful to have multiple control reagents in separate compartments. The difficulty is to make the separating walls thin enough they do not interfere with the pipet tips. We have made several such reservoirs with very thin walls (1.38 mm thick) so the pipets can reach bottom of the reservoir. This dimension allows pipet tips to be as large as 3.12 mm in diameter when they are 25.4 mm from the tip. Most 384 pipet tips are only 2.5 mm in diameter at this distance from the tip.

The photo to the right illustrates how the last few milliliters of a precious red reagent will gather in the dimples in a VP 531A.

When you have thin wall dividers between control wells of both polypropylene and PTFE reservoirs we DO NOT RECOMMEND AUTOCLAVING THE RESERVOIR FOR FEAR OF DEFORMING THE THIN WALLS.
