Overview
In the last 44 years, V&P Scientific has made over 50 different reaction blocks (for heating or cooling or both) to accommodate every size of vial, test tube, bottle, microplate, PCR plate, and in multiple numerical formats. Most of them have been made with aluminum and for those that needed to be magnetically stirred while they were heated, we made them with a special Eddy Current defeating design that minimizes the eddy current phenomena resulting from magnetic lines of flux passing through large masses of aluminum without affecting the insert’s ability to transfer heat. The Eddy Current defeating design reduces the load on the magnetic stirrer’s motor and also reduces the temperature that the aluminum block is heated up to. This latter phenomenon is important in applications where the temperature of the heat block needs to be less than 40°C.
One of our most popular heat/cool blocks is the VP 741I6A which we have sold approximately 4,000 in the past 10 years since the popularity of PCR reactions. Our ability to machine the wells of the VP 741I6A so they match perfectly the contours of the PCR plate and provide the most efficient transfer of heat/cool to the PCR plate.
