ASPIRATION MANIFOLD, 200µL Sterile Pipette Tips on Mandril for 40 Position (8×5 array) of Test Tubes, Stainless Steel Mandrils are 37mm Long, 81mm With Pipet Tip Attached, 15.5mm Center Spacing and are Compatible with Rainin RT LTS Pipette Tips, Aluminum Ejector Plate in Registration System and Pipette Tip Loading and Ejection System
Specific Overview
The VP 177P-1-200-40 is a 40 (8×5 array) mandril manifold that can pick up 200 ul LTS pipettes from a 40 (8×5 array) pipette tip rack. Springs hold the 40 mandril manifold up while a rack of 40 LTS pipettes slides in from the side and registers to the Manifold. Once in place, the Manifold is pressed down by applying hand pressure to the “press here“ spot on the Manifold. Thus, the mandrils are securely engaged in the LTS pipette tips.
The springs on the manifold move it up when the hand pressure is released, and the pipette tips rise out of the rack. The rack is removed and replaced with a 40-position rack with test tubes that must be sterilely aspirated. The liquid in the test tubes is aspirated by applying hand pressure to the “press here“ spot on the Manifold to lower the pipette tips into the test tubes and applying vacuum to the Manifold. The 3-stop adjustment bolts determine the bottom position of the pipettes. The adjustment on these bolts can be precisely determined for critical applications such as setting the distance above a pellet you do not want to be disturbed. If you are aspirating above a pellet, this system is for you.
To eject the pipette tips, slide a catch reservoir under the Manifold and then use both hands to press the ejection plate down, thus removing the used pipette tips into the catch reservoir. By changing the pipette tips each time between racks of test tubes, you can maintain the sterility of the sample left behind when multiple test tube racks must be processed.
Overview
V&P produces a wide variety of wands and manifolds to aspirate or dispense sterile media, assay buffers, and other liquids into standard or deep well microplates. We also make manifolds to evaporate liquids. The wands and manifolds are constructed of rugged clear polycarbonate or polypropylene (black or white) and stainless steel tubes. The single-bore wands are autoclavable and come with either tapered or Female Luer ends.
The polycarbonate manifolds are not autoclavable and have Female Luer connectors. We also offer polypropylene manifolds (black) which are autoclavable and resistant to organic solvents like DMSO. The manifolds have been developed for 24, 48, 96, and 384 well microplates as well for Gen-Probe assay plates and vials. It is very easy to attach these manifolds to an aspiration line by simply cutting off the finger tangs of a 1 to 3 ml plastic syringe then slipping your vacuum line over the syringe barrel and connecting the Female Luer on the manifold to the syringe nozzle. We also make custom manifolds for aspirating deep well plates and micro-centrifuge tubes.
Another solution is to use Male Luer Lok fittings to connect to the hose system. We are now providing male Luer Lok fittings with 3 different sized hose barb connectors (5/32″ – 4 mm, 3/16″ – 4.75 mm, and 1/4″ – 6.25 mm) at no extra charge with each Luer Lok equipped manifold and wand we sell. We do everything we can to make it easy for our customers.
Applications of V&P Scientific’s Aspiration Manifold
The removal or aspiration of liquid from microplates, tubes, or vials is an important aspect of processing many different assay protocols. V&P Scientific has worked closely with many scientists to develop new aspiration applications for over 40 years. We have solved many problems and feel that one of our 70 different aspiration manifolds may be the solution for your new protocol.
Examples
The following examples show how two of our customers used our VP 177A-1 (96 stainless steel tube aspiration manifold) to solve their aspiration needs.
The University of California, Riverside in Collaboration with USAID, presented a poster at Plant & Animal Genome 2015. The following V&P Scientific products were used for their research on DNA isolation of cowpea samples: VP 177A-1, VP 177AD-1, VP 177A-1B, VP 771MDWM-1,
Their experimental kit was able to process 96 samples in 6 hours, whereas a standard kit has a run time of approximately 3 hours for only 24 samples. The experimental magnetic bead kit also yielded an 18% decrease in cost compared to the Standard Kit. See Poster.
Another of our customers from the University of Alberta compared the VP 177A-1 aspirator to a Flick washing system and found the VP 177A-1 aspirator to be more sensitive and more reproducible. They also found that the VP 177A-1 is less likely to create potentially biohazardous aerosols. See the results of their study.
